The second semestrial
conference of governors of the ten
regions of Cameroon took place in
Yaounde today. This conference which
opened up today was presided over by the
Minister of State in charge of
Territorial administration and
decentralisation, Mr. Marafa Hamidou
Yaya. During this conference, the
governors are called upon to maintain
security and the respect of legal
instruments in the sense of good, fair
and public liberties during transparent
elections.
-
Some materials are
already available at ELECAM. Two types
of material are stored in the warehouses
of the old airport of Yaoundé. For
printed materials, there are envelopes,
forms of minutes of score sheets, sheets
of various weights, printed matter of
electoral lists and electoral maps.
Talking about also kit of election
materials composed of office supplies
(A4 paper format, ball points, pencils,
pens, gum, calculators, ink pad and
indelible ink, glue, tacks and predators
jars). In this material, there are also
the polls and polling booths. Polling
booths will be dressed in a loincloth in
the colours of Elections Cameroon.

The Minister of
Secondary Education, Louis Bapes Bapes
inaugurates this year a good number of
important specialties in schools. As
from now henceforth, the
specialty; technology information (TI),
hotel management (HM) and food and
nutrition will be introduced in the
second cycle of secondary education in
Cameroon, (FN). Training will also be
introduced in the specialty hospital
maintenance (MHB) and in the
aesthetic/hair (ESCO) specialty. Also,
the introduction of module programs
relating to human rights, to the fight
against corruption, the education of
family life, population education and
HIV/AIDS. The Department of secondary
lessons will also strengthen its
programs related to the teaching of the
arts, languages and national cultures
and the promotion of bilingualism.

2011 presidential
elections in Cameroon: environmental state
-
Two days after the
end of the reception of documents of
candidates for the 2011 presidential
elections in Cameroon, Elecam examines
the 51 documents deposited by the
postulants at the presidency of the
republic. The ball is in the cot of the
independent organ in charge of the
organisation of elections in Cameroon.
The electoral organ has to examine all
the documents to verify the exactitude
of information and the conformity of the
documents with the law. The list of
candidates retained shall therefore be
published around the 19th of
September 2011.Elecam is simultaneously
working on the electoral document. The
temporal list of voters shall be
published to enable voters do the
necessary verifications. From the 25th
day before the scrutiny, competent
commissions of Elecam will start the
distribution of electoral cards.

A total of 51
documents have been registered by Elecam.
39 documents were registered in Yaounde
at the headquarters of Elecam. 12
documents were registered in the
different regions of the independent
organs in charge of elections in
Cameroon. 04 documents were deposited in
Douala, 03 in Bamenda and others were
registered in Buea, Bertoua, Garoua and
Bafoussam. The document of the candidate
of the Cameroon’s People’s Democratic
Movement (CPDM), Paul Biya, was
deposited on Sunday 04th
September 2011 by the Secretary General
of the Central Committee of the CPDM.
Rene Sadi headed an important delegation
of higher authorities of his party. The
director of the Civil Cabinet, Martin
Belinga Eboutou was also part of this
team. After Elecam, the CPDM delegation
gave a copy of the document to the
Supreme Court.

Ni John Fru Ndi,
since 21years president of the Social
Democratic Front (SDF), will be
candidate for the 3rd time
for presidential elections in Cameroon.
Deputy Fobi Nchinda who was candidate of
the SDF finally withdrew his
candidature; UNDP gives his support to
the candidate of the CPDM. Maigari Bello
Bouba confirmed last Sunday at a press
conference at the party house in
Yaoundé.

The S.D.F
and the U.N.D.P congress is due to take
place on the 03rd of
September 2011 in Bamenda and Yaounde
respectively.
-
The
national gendarmerie has launched a
special back to school road safety
campaign along the National Road Number
three linking Yaounde and Douala. The
six day campaign consists of sensitizing
road users and sanctioning defaulters.
At the end of the first day, over
million francs were collected from some
70 drivers found guilty of excessive
speed, dangerous over taking and driving
with wound out tyres. The campaign seeks
to reduce accidents on the Yaounde -
Douala highway at a time when schools
are about reopen.

Two
delegations of Elections Cameroon,
ELECAM recently had a couple of weeks
stay in Italy and in Nigeria. Their main
objective was to check the progress of
Cameroonian votes in the diaspora. The
team which was in the Italian capital,
Rome was led by Madame Dorothy Ndjeuma.
That which was in Calabar in Nigeria had
as leader Cecile Bomba Nkolo. The team
put in place for this mission invited
Cameroonians in the diaspora to
participate in the politics of their
country in the spirit of patriotism by
massively registering in the electoral
list.

Wednesday 31st August
2011 marks the end of the operation of
the establishment of National Identity
cards. We observed an enormous affluence
of late comers who wanted to benefit
from this exceptional measure.
Consequently, it was a particular motive
for Cameroonians to have free
“laissez-faire” which was observed all
over police posts. The free
establishment of National identity cards
is a beneficial measure for those who
could cease the opportunity.

Moslems the world
over are still celebrating the feast of
the Ramadam. This celebration marks the
end of a 30 days fasting period. In
Cameroon, this day was given a special
homage as it was declared a public
holiday.

Arriving Cameroon for
a preparatory match with Mauritius on
the 03rd of September 2011,
team captain and triple European
champion of European clubs, Samuel Eto’o
was received in audience by first lady
Madame Chantal Biya on the 30th
of August 2011 in the presidential
residence at Mvomeka’a, the native
village of the President of the
Republic, H.E. Paul Biya. Together with
Samuel Eto’o, the ambassador of goodwill
of the United Nations Organisation,
first lady Chantal Biya, brought up the
numerous projects in favour of our
country and victims of different
illnesses and how to solve the problems.

signed a decree yesterday convening
members of the electoral corp for
the 9th of october, 2011.

The
3th ordinary congress of the CPDM will
be holding on the 15th and 16th of

The first in-country
consultative meeting of UNITAIDS, the
agency that collects taxes from airline
travel and reinvest in the fight against
AIDS, TB and Malaria in developing
countries has taken place in Yaounde. The
Meeting was presided over by the
Minister of Public Health, Andre Mama
Fouda in the Presence of the Minister of
Finance, Essimi Menye. The meeting was
organized to assess the activities of
the global health initiative that
provides low cost quality drugs for the
treatment, diagnosis and prevention of
HIV and Tuberculosis in Cameroon since
2007. So far, the innovative financing
initiative for health development has
invested some 17 million Dollars an
estimated eight billion CFA francs in
Cameroon. Cameroonian born, Dr Esther
Tallah, Board Member of UNITAID said
within five years, the initiative has
expanded access to low cost, quality
pharmaceuticals for the prevention of
mother to child transmission of HIV. It
has also increase supply at reduced
prices of diagnostics and monitoring
test for children and provided an
integrated package for care of children
with HIV/AIDS amongst others. Gelise
McCullough of UNITAID secretariat said
Cameroon is due to benefit from
investments in the fight against Malaria
in 2012. The meeting came on the eve of
the visit to Cameroon of the Chairman of
UNITAID executive board, Philipppe
Douste-Blazy.

The Minister of Public Works,
Bernard Messengue Avom has presided over the
first National Road Forum that opened on
Wednesday, 24th August 2011 in Yaounde. The
meeting was organized to examine the road
maintenance sector which was privatized in
following reforms introduced in 2006. While
addressing some one thousand participants,
Bernard Messengue Avom warned against the poor
performance of the road maintenance sector. He
said the reforms introduced in 2006 which
transferred the execution and control of public
works to private companies and consultancy firms
were intended to ensure efficiency and improve
quality in road maintenance works. The Minister
called on participants to be innovative and
creative in deliberations. He hoped that
recommendations made at the forum shall provide
government with a more performing road sector.

A conference on the theme « the
problematic of the extension of social
security and the integration of
young Cameroonians into
socio-professionalism » took place
yesterday the 23th of August 2011 at
IRESS (Regional Institute of Social
Security).

The 9th edition of the aids
free holiday campaign was launched
yesterday 23th August 2011 at the
Yaoundé Congress Hall. It was presided
over by the Minister of Public Health,
Andre Mama Fouda and the Minister of
Youth Affairs, under the theme “Young
girl do your HIV screening”.
-
A partnership accord was signed
yesterday the 23th August 2011 by the
Pan African Parliament Network (PAPN) on
climate change.
-
The Regional Delegate of Public Works
visited Nkometou (near Obala) yesterday
23th August 2011 on the sensitization
programme to curb road destruction
problems.

The Minister of Small and Medium Sized
Enterprises Social Economy and
Handicraft, Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa
has laid the foundation for the
construction of a handicraft village in
the South West Region. The foundation
stone was laid in Bonadikombo, Limbe
during a ceremony attended by
dignitaries of the region including
South West Regional Governor Koumpa Issa.

The President of the Republic, Paul Biya has
received in audience the outing Korean
Ambassador to Cameroon, Hosung Lee. During the
close to forty minutes audience, President Paul
Biya and the South Korean ambassador revisited
the state of bilateral and diplomatic relations
between the two Countries since the reopening of
the South Korean embassy in Cameroon in 2008.
Talking about his personal relationship with
Cameroon, Ambassador Hosung Lee said, “Cameroon
is like my second home, I cannot forget the
hospitality and diversity of Cameroon”.

The campaign to distribute some 8.6 million
treated mosquito bed nets to fight against
malaria in the country has been launched in
three regions of the country. The campaign was
launched in the Centre, East and South West
Regions on Monday 22nd August 2011, two days
after the Prime Minister, Head of Government
launched the nationwide campaign in Yaoundé. The
regional launching ceremonies were followed by
training of agents who shall number houses,
distribute the nets and help households use
them. The over 8 million long-lasting
insecticide treated mosquito nets targets some
19 million Cameroonians.

The Minister of
External Relations, Henri Eyebe Ayissi
granted an audience to the president of
Transparency International Cameroon
(TI-C), Charles Nguini yesterday
afternoon, the 22nd of august 2011 due
to the allegations of registrations into
the electoral list by SMS’s. Some days
ago, banners were at different places of
the capital city calling on people to
register by SMS. Three institutions were
implied in the process; that is: (TI-C),
Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) and European
Union (EU). In the course of this
meeting, Me. Nguini refuted to be part
of this process. But said (TI-C) is in
part of other means to promote
transparent, free and fair elections.

The last date for
registration for the 2011 presidential
election has been pushed to the 30th
of august 2011.
-
Considering the
political instability engulfing the
world, the Muslim dignitaries of
Cameroon have decided to organize a
special prayer for peace in accordance
to the 2011presidential elections.

The Muea – Kumba highway
project stands as a proof of the “Great
Expectations” ambitions of the President of the
Republic, H.E. Paul Biya.

The President of the Mezam I
section of the Cameroon People’s Democratic
Movement,CPDM, Paul Atanga Nji chaired a meeting
to evaluate the number of members in the
electoral list.

The Minister of Agriculture
and Rural Development,Jean Nkuete has given a 20
million CFA subsidy to cocoa farmers in the
South Region to relaunch the reproduction of
cocoa and the reclamation of abandoned land
which produce more than 20tones of cocoa per
annum.

have been registered in the North region

Yaounde, the town

the central region and finally the chief department of Mfoundi.
Yaounde was
founded on the 17th of February 1889 by the Germans.
First of all as a station for botanic and agricultural research,
later a military station and finally a district in 1905. The choice

ESSON ELA. Yaounde for the first time became the capital of Cameroon
