On Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at the esplanade of the Besseke Festival Square in Douala, in the presence of administrative, religious and traditional authorities, the Military High Command, his family and the numerous populations who came to attend the official installation of Brigadier General EKONGWESSE Divine NNOKO by Joseph BETI ASSOMO, Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, who presided over the ceremony of taking command.
It is by virtue of his qualities as a seasoned and experienced soldier that the President of the Republic, by virtue of the decree of 14 July 2022, entrusted GB EKONGWESSE Divine NNOKO with the responsibility of leading the security of the Littoral and South-West regions.
His mission will thus be to curb the phenomenon of insecurity in the Littoral Region which is plagued by criminogenic tendencies, various traffics, the manifest incivism of the population and to optimise the fight against terrorism in the South-West Region where there is an outgrowth of secessionist activities particularly in the Manyu and Lebialem Departments.
Who is General EKONGWESSE Divine NNOKO?
Born on 26/06/1958, in Nyang-Bangem in the Department of Kupe-Muanenguba, South West Region, he graduated from the EMIA in 1986, laureate of the “06 November” promotion. He followed a Unit Commander course from 1986 to 1987. He obtained the Certificates of Staff in 2000, of Criminology in 2004 and was admitted to the Senior Officers’ Course from 2004 to 2005. He also holds a Certificate in Humanitarian Law obtained in 2006.
His various functions before his appointment
General Ekongwesse Divine has held several positions. He was successively Commander of the Companies of Mbalmayo, Tignère, Douala Airport, Bamenda, then second-in-command of the Eastern Gendarmerie Legion in 2002 then acting Commander between 2003 and 2004, Commander of the Gendarmerie Officers School in 2004, Director of Personnel of the National Gendarmerie in 2007. Between 2009 and 2014, he was in turn Commander of the Gendarmerie Legions of the North, Adamaoua, East and North, Inspector No. 1 at the General Inspectorate of the National Gendarmerie. Following his promotion to the rank of Brigadier General on 29 June 2017, he was appointed Commander of the 5th Gendarmerie Region, the position he held before his recent redeployment. The Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence has prescribed rigour in the management of men and subordinate units in terms of discipline and probity both in urban areas and in the operational framework in order to prevent any deviant behaviour and attitudes likely to undermine the reputation of the Cameroon Defence Forces
